Material wise, we are good. Now we are in need of funds to cover the little tikes. OH, and FOOD. I have not gotten Rainbow to respond about the 500 and I would drive myself to get it if I could get through to them. I don't know if they even have it anymore.
Food, we need food! - Totally Ferret with the chicken shreds in it is beloved by all the ferrets but they do seem to eat a little of everything, so any ferret food BUT the moist kind. It has a tendency to mold when mixed with the other.
Stories. We have a little girl that had no skin on her bottom and had to have her rectum sewn back into place, which isn't there yet and might need yet another surgery. They did a purse string to pull as much skin around it as they could - still a lot is exposed and she is on 3 meds. We have the little boy who was so badly chewed up on the neck, the skin died and they had to cut it out and again pull the skin together. He has big angry scar down his back now that probably won't ever get hair again. The little boy with the chewed up butt (the coward) had to have it all irrigated out from under the skin and is now doing fabulous. So many were coughing, much of it cleared up with medication but some have got it in their lungs now and are on 2 meds. Some of the girls are in season and/or pregnancy and the surgery is going to run more than we thought. A few have broken teeth that need removal as it is into the pulp and they are in pain. That will be done at the time they are spayed but will still run extra.
Financial. I would say our meds will run us at least $2500 more than what our allowance for the spaying neutering was. Again, we seem okay on material needs, just need labor and financing.
Volunteers. We have a lot coming in to work but there is so much work, we never ever run out of things to do. The gang from Houston came in and took 3 or 4 hours working on the 12 boys (I think they played around) and then when they got to the girls.........there are 53 of them. Well some didn't get done. It was the same with the vet, the boys were easier and more fun, the girls are still very very defensive and difficult to work with. Even someone coming in just to handle them would be a blessing.
Adopt. Yes I would like to adopt out a few to help with the expenses we don't get funds for, like my gas and I know my utilities will go sky high with all the wash and the dryer going constantly, people in and out with the heat on, and we did use extra heat for the ferrets when it was cold and now have fans on them till it gets down again. It may look like we are having too much fun and in truth, I know those people are enjoying themselves although you can see how tired they are from the time they come in the door till they go out. Most all of the boys are spoken for by these ladies. It will just be the little girls and some of them are spoken for. I allowed them to have them for helping and $15 registration fees. I'm still scared that won't be covered. For the shelters, for what they can take, we will tally up and if the bills are all paid, will just let the shelters have them. We would love to adopt out a lot too to help our miscellaneous funds we spent here and there.
